Description

Antique 1898 USN Sword and Scabbard. The sword has naval insignia etched on each side and "The Warnock Uniform Co, New York" etched near the grip. Gilded brass counter-guard with openwork oak leaf and acorn motif with "USN" molded in relief on the underside and "Presented to E.W. Harmon By the 2d Div. 2d Naval Battalion May 11 1898" engraved on the top. The grip is covered in gray fish skin and wrapped with twisted wire. Helmet-shaped pommel with eagle in oval frame studded with thirteen stars molded on top. The scabbard is made of leather and metal with gilded brass carrying ring mounts, which are cast in high relief and resemble knotted rope, and gilded brass drag with fish-like appearance. Measures approximately 36" long. Good condition.
