Description

This is a vintage 1978 Fender Precision Bass in the “Sunburst” pattern, serial number S888585. The Fender Precision Base, or “P.Bass” as it is sometimes referred to is considered the world’s first electric bass, and comes with several features including a contoured double-horned body, a split single-coil pickup, and a wider neck profile. Several famous artists have used the Precision Bass as their instrument of choice, including Steve Harris of Iron Maiden, John Entwistle of The Who, Roger Waters of Pink Floyd, and even Sting from The Police. The Sunburst is named for the distinctive finish of the ash wood body, which consists of a bright orange center that turns into a opaque black around the edges of the body. This guitar also comes with the original nickel-plated bridge cover, and comes with an extra bridge cover. These are usually lost over time, so it is very rare to see them still attached, and even more rare to have an extra. The serial number of this guitar indicates that it was manufactured in the USA sometime in 1978 at Fender’s Fullerton Factory, and was numbered #88585. This factory was famous for being the factory that birthed legendary fender guitars like the Stratocaster and this Precision Bass, and was in operation between 1958 and 1985. This means that this particular bass is a small part of Fender History. Lastly, the bass comes with its original carrying case. The case measures approximately 47.5” x 15” x 4.5”. All items in this lot are in good condition, and examples of this guitar can range between $2000-$3500.
