Description

Frederic Sackrider Remington (October 4, 1861 – December 26, 1909) was an American painter, illustrator, sculptor, and writer who specialized in the genre of Western American Art. His works are known for depicting the Western United States in the last quarter of the 19th century and featuring such images as cowboys, American Indians, and the US Cavalry. "Coming Thru The Rye” was inspired by the artist's own illustrations, one published in "Century Magazine" in October 1888 and the other in “Harper’s Weekly” in December 1889. Four mounted cowboys, pistols raised aloft, keep a steady pace in a tight, boisterous group. The sculpture is fixed to a metal base, and the artist’s signature is cast into the top part of the base. A brass plaque with the name of the sculpture and the artist is also present on the base. The statue measures approximately 16” x 10” x 13”, and is in good condition. EXTREMELY HEAVY!
